I am so thankful that I have this studio space to shoot in when the weather is not ideal. July in Texas is just such a time. It is so so SO hot outside and definitely not the most comfortable setting for a photo session. We decided the studio would be a perfect location for this little man’s one-year milestone session. Unfortunately, upon arrival, the birthday boy let us know loud and clear that he was not in the mood for pictures.
We tried everything…music, snacks, toys, silliness, snuggles and reading but nothing would cheer this guy up. So plan B was to just keep shooting. I did what I love to do and I just kept watching and snapping and watching and snapping. I know mom and dad were frazzled. I know they were puzzled. I know the session did not go as they had hoped but here is the thing… Kids have a mind of their own. You can set up everything for a successful session but you just never know. This is one of the many reason’s that I love lifestyle photography over a traditional portrait session. There is room for imperfection. In fact, I welcome imperfection with open arms.
I came home from this session and culled through the images with a big grin on my face. Despite the dramatic performance that little man gave us, I still walked away capturing this sweetheart in all his glory. A true one-year-old display of emotions captured on camera.
