When I arrived for this session, I was greeted at the door by this gorgeous mama, her amazing red hair and bright smile. When she asked me into her home, she was kind and welcoming and acted as if we were old friends. During the small talk and tour of the home before the session “officially” started, I was getting excited. Mom and Dad were wonderful. Their home was wonderful. Their baby boy was a doll. And then mom told me that she wanted to make sure to incorporate a few special items as a way to honor someone who wasn’t there. And I got chills.
To say this session was powerful would be an understatement. Not only was this session a celebration of this adorable little guy, but it was also a celebration of life for a family member lost. We made sure to incorporate the special items in simple ways. We did not want to overpower the images but definitely wanted this person to have a presence in the session. It was emotional at times. Mom and Dad couldn’t see my damp eyes behind the camera, but they were there.
It was truly a beautiful morning and as usual I am honored that they chose me to photograph their new baby.
