One-year-olds are busy little people and this sweet little man is no exception. I knew this lifestyle session would be busy. I knew it would be action packed. I knew there would be lots of chasing, playing, and “attempting” to keep him busy for one split second.
But you know what? That is what I LOVE about these sessions. Especially at this particular age. As soon as I arrived at his home, I was instantly invited into his world. How did I plan my time while I was there? Simple, I didn’t. I just watched. And followed. And enjoyed all the things he wanted to show me.
Some people are unsure about lifestyle photography. They think that the posed and smiling shots are the only ones that matter. Those people wonder how casual shots in their home could be meaningful. To those of you who may fall into this category, I encourage you to look through these images. Imagine you are this sweet boys mom. Imagine this boy is 18 and moving away to go to college. Do you think these images are valuable to her? Do you think she cherishes the opportunity to glance into the past and remember her tiny one-year-old and how he fit into their world so long ago? What about the opportunity to look back and remember how her tiny baby used to crawl into her lap? Or laughing as she remembers how he loved to pull all the books off the library shelves. Or the memory of the giggles as daddy used to throw him on the bed over and over again?
Time doesn’t stop. It goes by too fast. And unfortunately memories fade. Photography helps us to freeze time.
And that, the emotional reaction you just had, is the reason why I love lifestyle photography.
